Places To Visit In Yorkshire With Kids

Lotherton Hall

I’m a huge fan of Lotherton Hall. A lovely old family home that was donated to the Leeds City Council and is now home to one of the best bird parks in the UK, Lotherton Hall is a great place to visit with the family. The house is usually open to visit and take a step back in time to see how the former residents of Lotherton Hall lived. Outside you can play in the large gardens, playground area, visit their Deer Park or alternatively just go on a long walk around the beautiful estate. When looking for things to do in Yorkshire, Lotherton Hall is certainly a contender.

Brimham Rocks

My girls absolutely loved our visit to Brimham Rocks. Run by the National Trust, it’s free to enter, however, you do need to pay for parking. If you’re worried about visiting Brimham Rocks with kids, click the image below for my Top 10 Tips for visiting Brimham Rocks with kids.

The National Railway Museum in York

This is another free day out and a brilliant fun and educational outing for the kids. The National Railway Museum is a must for the whole family. They have everything from the history of the national railways to a life-size Japanese Bullet Train, memorabilia from trains throughout history to the Queen’s own royal carriage! The kids and I had great fun on our day out there. Based in the city of York, you must fit this in when considering things to do in York with kids.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park! They are home to a wide variety of different animals, and in addition to being a conservation centre, they are one of only a few world-class polar bear conservation areas. Home to 4 polar bears, you can see these cute and cuddly but equally terrifying and intimidating bears! When we were there we got to see them swimming in the 8-meter deep lake built for them. It was quite a sight to behold! By the way, have you seen their hilarious InstaStories! It’s definitely my favourite one to follow!

And you must stop to see the meerkats! I could spend hours watching them, they are so funny!

Temple Newsam

Temple Newsam and Home Farm are a great place to visit as a family. The House and gardens themselves are lovely and a great way to rediscover over 500 years worth of history as told by those who used to live there. The vast art collection and displays in the house are worth a visit alone. As well as the impressive house and gardens and the rhododendron walk, you can enjoy a walk through the estate and even visit the lake there. It’s ideal for walking, cycling and even horse riding.

Home farm, situated within the estate, right next to the house itself, is great for the kids, showing them what a working farm would have been like a century or so ago and it still has a wide selection of animals from pigs and rabbits to cows and goats! The kids will love it. When you’re done you can enjoy a lovely bite to eat from the resident cafe and the kids can play in the adventure playground which was a big hit with my girls.

Other Ideas of places to visit over the Yorkshire Half Term Holidays:

If all else fails, there’s always the option to load everyone in the car and take a trip to the coast! Don’t forget to pack … everything! Wellies, change of clothes, bucket & spade, another change of clothes, the sandwiches and the sunblock! It’s be worth it in the end.

Yorkshire is full of different places to go and things to do with the kids! If you’re looking to visit Yorkshire, why not stay a bit longer. You could book into any of these: the 16 best lodges with hot tubs in Yorkshire!

Whatever you decide to do, there are so many things to do in Yorkshire, over half term or any other time of the year. I’m grateful we get to call Yorkshire home.
