Buying gifts for my girls becomes more difficult every year. Now that my eldest is 10 years old, I’m finding it more difficult than ever. Thinking of gift ideas for 10-year-old girls who practically have everything is so difficult. Christmas and birthdays inevitably roll around frequently, and parents and loved ones ask themselves, what can I buy a 10-year-old girl who has “everything”! Well, I’m here to help solve that riddle with the ultimate super cool gift ideas! After a bit of digging, I’ve come up with a good strategy to help gift-givers with some gift ideas for 10-year-old girls who have everything.

When they were younger, it was more about quantity. You could get away with buying lots of cheap little gifts because half the joy of the day was in ripping open the gifts to see what was inside. Now though, they have openly said to me, “Mum, I have everything; there’s nothing that I don’t have.” They don’t mean it in a bratty way; they mean that they can’t think of something that they desperately want that they don’t already have, and they say it graciously and in such a way that they don’t expect anything outrageously over the top because they know how fortunate they are.
However, that doesn’t help me when I ask them, “So what do you want for your birthday, other than a fabulous birthday card?” Hopefully, I’ve come up with a few gift ideas for 10-year-old girls that will help gift-givers find something worth gifting.
The Rule Of 5 Gift Ideas
Have you heard of the rule of 5 gift ideas? It’s basically a way to help you decide what type of gifts to give someone. They fall into 5 neat categories. They are:
- Something they want
- Something they need
- Something to share
- Something to read
- Something to show them you care
Personally, I love these. It really makes thinking of what to buy a 10-year-old girl who has everything just that little bit easier. Here are a few ideas for each category that I thought would make awesome gifts for impossible 10-year-olds. Oh, but before I get going, remember that in 2021, there are very few items that are strictly for boys or strictly for girls, so have an open mind when thinking of what gifts to get.
Something They Want
The ‘Something they want’ gift should be purely indulgent. Is there something they have been asking for specifically? My daughter has been nagging me for a couple of things, but here are a few indulgent gift ideas for 10-year-old girls whether it’s for a birthday gift or another special occasion:
- An interactive glow-in-the-dark t-shirt
- Unicorn poop slime/gloop
- A glitter light, or as we used to call them, a lava lamp
- a 230 piece robotics smart machine!
Something They Need
This should be something they need that is practical and good value for money. Ideas for something they need gifts could be:
- New fun socks
- A new backpack for school
- How about a fancy waterbottle
- Stationary is always a win here, consider a new set of coloured pens & notebooks
Something to Share
I always include one gift that is something they can share. My girls love each other but fight a lot too. Fortunately/unfortunately they are stuck with each other so have to spend a lot of time together. Here are a few ideas of gifts that they have to share:
- A baking kit
- A gardening set
- Board Games like Monopoly, Articulate, The Game Of Life, Horrible Histories Board Game and even simpler games like Uno are all great!
- Creative box sets such as tattoos, tie dye kits, hair dye kits, or anything that’s more fun if they share it with someone else.
Remember, a sharing gift doesn’t have to be shared with a sibling either; it can be shared with a friend, parent, or other family members.
Something to Read
Books are a great gift, so something to read is always a winner! The tricky bit is finding out what type of books they are into at the moment. Other than straight out asking them, you could approach their teacher for ideas of what’s on their reading list at school, consult the current bestseller list at your local book store, or wing it. I find at this age that they aren’t very adventurous when it comes to trying new genres or styles of books to read, but if you gift them something different, it might make them that little bit more curious to try something different.
Something to show them you care
When it comes to a gift that shows them you care, my advice would be to take them out on a date. It can be a mum and daughter date, a trip to the spa, to get their hair or nails done, or even a family activity of their choice. You could even make a little shopping trip focused solely on them. At 10 years old, girls want to be made to feel special, listened to, heard and ultimately, they want that one-to-one attention. It’s not about the money you spend; it’s about the time.

Very nice selection of ideas, and that rule of 5 is a great guide to get thinking about different types of gifts. A word of warning about those glow in the dark t-shirts: We bought one last Christmas, and it was fun, but didn’t wash well at all. So it was basically ruined after the first wash. Should say gentle hand wash on them, as gentle machine wash was clearly more than they could cope with. It was cool while it lasted though. Thanks so much for linking up with #KCACOLS! x
