After the last couple of years of living through a pandemic, many of us are looking forward to a spending more time with our cherished loved ones, and spoiling them whenever we get the chance. although with the cost of living how it is currently, if you’re going to gift someone it’s always a good idea to give them a more practical gift, something they can use again and again. So with that in mind, I thought it would be good idea to make a list of practical gifts for Grandparents that would really make a difference in their lives in the long run.

Sometimes, we want to spoil the grandparents, not just at Christmas but all year long. These gifts aim to make their lives more practical and manageable or simply to give them some joy that lasts all year long. So here are 10 gifts for grandparents that keep on giving all year long.
1. An Annual Pass or Membership To Their Favourite Attraction
Buying your grandparents an annual attraction pass for somewhere like The National Trust or English Heritage gives them access to a wide range of attractions that they can spend time exploring.
2. A mobility aid
This might sound like an unusual gift for a grandparent, but many grandparents are stubborn and don’t want to admit that they might need a bit of help. There are many different types of mobility aids, from a walking stick or cane to a walker, or you might even be considering stairlifts for them. Whatever it is, I’m sure they will appreciate it in the long run, and it would definitely be a practical gift that they are thankful for.
3. Warm fluffy socks or slippers
These might be more of a stocking stuffer, but you can’t beat a really good quality pair of slippers for grandparents. Please make sure they are both warm and non-slip. I prefer the ones with a soft rubber soal to help avoid any nasty slips or falls in the kitchen or bathroom area, or even going up and down carpeted stairs.
4. An indoor garden kit
An indoor gardening kit is a brilliant gift for grandparents, especially those who live in colder climates or don’t have a garden at home. It’s a little kit that comes complete with growing pots, seeds and all the instructions you need to set up an indoor garden. Several different brands are selling these; simply search for the one that best suits your grandparents.
5. An Alexa or similar smart speaker.
An Alexa or other smart speaker is one of the best gifts for grandparents on this list. There are many different types, from the simple ones that play music to the top end of the technology that could help them massively.
Think about it; you could set it up for them so that they can issue commands to turn off the lights, play their favourite show, or even call you in an emergency simply by saying the command. You might need to make sure they have broadband installed and help them set it up, but I guarantee they will quickly learn to love it. Not got broadband sorted yet? There are many different brands on the market, but ultimately they all offer similar benefits – instant hot water, space-saving, energy efficiency and convenience. Nevermind this being on the list of gifts for grandparents; it’s on my Christmas wishlist too!
10. Something to make reading a little easier
For a lot of older people, their eyesight can suffer a bit. Be it through loss of eyesight, or due to poor lighting, or simply just age creeping up on them. Hey, I struggle to read things sometimes, not helped by kids thrusting some writing almost into my eyeball. But you could consider getting them such as reading glasses or even eye magnifying glasses. There are loads of different types of reading aids available, something for everyone, really.
