This morning I took the girls to our local cinema to watch the latest Smurf movie. The latest offering by Sony Pictures.

The story is about how Smurfette (voiced by Demi Lovato) isn’t a real smurf. She’s made from clay by the evil wizard ‘Gargamel’ who created her to help him find the smurfs. She finds it hard to identify with the all male Smurf village even though they all love her. Then one day she comes across a chance sighting of another Smurf who she’s never met before and shortly after is captured by Gargamel. She is eventually rescued by her friends and escapes but not before Gargamel also finds out about the new smurf and the fact that there is a whole other lost village of Smurfs deep in the ‘Forbidden Forest’. Smurfette and her friends then go on a quest to warn the new smurfs that Gargamel is coming for them. The movies is their adventure on the way there, and then what happens when they do find them. I won’t spoil the ending of the movie. The visuals are great. We saw the 3D version and it was really good animation.

I asked my 5 year old the following questions and these are her replies:

Who was your favourite character? Smurfette, because she’s pretty and brave, even when she’s scared.

What is the funniest part of the movie? The cat – he’s so funny. He said meow meow meow meow (in other words, blah blah blah blah).

What was your favourite part of the movie? *The ending* – I won’t spoil it.

If your kids haven’t seen it, I would highly recommend taking them to see it. It was a fun, engaging adventure with a great moral to it. As soon as we walked out of the theatre, both my 5 year old and 3 year old asked me when they could watch it again, so it’s clearly a winner and we will anxiously be awaiting the release on DVD.

I have now almost ticked off everything from our ‘to do list’ of holiday activities and I still have a week to go. Thank goodness Easter is nearly here.
