I think it’s time to turn off the noise.
As parents, we can become sidetracked from our own mission of what we believe to be right or wrong when we listen to everyone else’s opinions too much. It is easy to worry that we aren’t doing enough, or we’re doing too much. It’s human nature to compare and contrast, but at the end of the day, we need to decide what is best for our own children and then turn off the noise! I know what I’m talking about because I used to be a sheep!
As a blogger we move in certain circles and whilst competition can be healthy when you become preoccupied with what everyone else is doing and the way they’re doing it, you can lose sight of your goals as well. Who got what campaign. How did that person’s post compare with yours? What did so-and-so get paid to be part of that campaign? This mentality was extremely bad for my anxiety, so I took the decision to turn off the noise!
How To Irritate Me & Lose Credibility!
A friend of mine recently did something amazing. It was new exciting, innovative, inspirational and fair! And it was flippen hard work. But she pulled it off! And how!
As her friend, I got to see some of the hard work, time, love, dedication and skill that she put into the project. The result of the project was not for her benefit, but for the benefit of the community. Unfortunately, I don’t think many other people realised what it took. They only saw what they got from it.
This behaviour and mentality have caused me to lose a lot of respect for these people. I can stand a lot of things, but rudeness, arrogance and condescension are not character traits that I admire. And it’s times like this when all I can advise, my friend, is to turn off the noise!
You do you, and I’ll do me!
When I become preoccupied with other people’s thoughts, opinions and behaviours then I quickly lose inspiration. I become filled with self-doubt, I become self-conscious and I become miserable. The only way to get back the inspiration to carry on doing what it is I love to do, or what I know is the right thing to do, is to turn off the noise.

Remove yourself from unhealthy situations. Disassociate yourself from people who make you feel bad about yourself. Turn off the noise, and you will find that the air will clear, you will be able to breathe again, and you will find your inspiration to carry on. Carry on and just do you.
In the wise words of Anthony Hopkins:
“My philosophy is: It’s none of my business what people say of me and think of me. I am what I am and I do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. And it makes life so much easier.”
Have a nice day now, and don’t forget to turn off the noise!
Pin this to remind you to turn off the noise!

Gosh, I love this. I am going to make a conscious effort to start turning off the noise and refocus my energies on what makes me happy! Thank you for the reminder, my friend! x
Anytime! X
Ah my friend this is such a beautiful piece, thank you for this and I love it. Funny you should say these things because I person can very quickly doubt your own abilities and then loose focus on your own strengths. Love it x
Thank you. It was one of those spur of the moment posts that I had to write and publish right then. I’m glad I did.
Turn down the noise! Love this and it will be my new mantra.

It’s a good saying. I often say it out load to myself when I start feeling overwhelmed.
So very true …. thank you for such amazing words
Beautifully said Carly. As always you give food for thought. I agree, if your energy is getting messed with, turn off the noise.

You’re so right! I’m off to turn the volume down to zero for the afternoon! #DreamTeam
Yes to this! What a fab post. Your ‘you do you and i’ll do me’ bit has completely stuck to me – in a good way. I really REALLY love this. It’s very easy to get caught up in the whole… but why not me thing as a blogger. And also the other way around when you have managed to do something, and all of a sudden it’s pretty much copied. Absolutely turn off the noise and focus on you. Thanks for sharing with the #Dreamteam xx
My pleasure lovely! I’m glad you enjoyed it! It was a very personal post for a good friend. X
Thanks Annette! It can be hard, but an absolute necessity if we want to keep a lid on our sanity. Especially for those of us who suffer from anxiety!
