Actually, I’m ‘The Queen’ of a lot of things and have been labelled that many, many times in my life … ‘The Lazy Queen’ (not so nice), the ‘Wine Queen’ (I’ll take that one). One label I own in a self-resignation kind of way is ‘The Queen of Procrastination’.
It’s a quality I admit to, can’t fight, was born with, and one that drives my husband and my mother insane!!! Like, quite literally to the very brink of insanity! You can see them getting red in the face in frustrated rage when they notice what I’m doing. My mom has kind of accepted it after 35 years, but I’d say it’s probably the second-worst thing about me in my husband’s opinion.
Opposites Attract, apparently.
You see they are both the complete opposite to me. I almost always leave things until the last minute and then end up winging it. They, on the other hand, do everything as soon as it is known about, as soon as they can actually get it done, it will be done! They are awesome, I wish I could be like them, but I’m just not. Sorry.
But … let’s give them a round of applause! (Love you both.)
There is a quote by Robin Sharma that says:
The activity you are most avoiding contains your biggest opportunity.Robin Sharma
Whilst I agree in part, I wholly disagree when it comes to certain situations!
Good Reasons To Procrastinate
- Doing the dishes!
- Filing or any paperwork!
- Folding Laundry!
- Going to the grocery store with kids – NOPE!
- Cleaning the car, because of the kids!
- Vacuuming the house … do you see a pattern emerging?!
- Thinking what to feed them … again!
In ALL of these instances, I am really NOT missing out on any opportunity. None! ZERO!
Here is a list of things I’d rather do whilst procrastinating about any of those chores:
- Literally anything else!
This is the most perfect illustration to explain procrastination to someone who doesn’t get it:
How To Irritate Me
The quote I hate the most is from Thomas Jefferson, or maybe it was Benjamin Franklin … anyway, it’s one that I get told all the time:
Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
Actually, I think I will … because I don’t want to do it!
The thing about us procrastinators is that we knoooowww! We know what we’re doing, and we can give you any number of excuses as to why we’re doing it. We just can’t help it and don’t really care either.
Just in case you were wondering just how bad I am … I’m writing an entire blog post about procrastination, whilst procrastinating about everything on the first list in this post, and more.
Now … where did I put my crown?
