We love to travel with our kids. Okay … rephrase. We love to travel, and our kids have to come with. But they do love it! Our favourite way to travel is road trips because we firmly believe that it’s not just about the destination, it’s about the journey too. Whilst we are travelling on our long road trips, the kids spend a lot of time reading, both books and on their devices. I thought I would do a round-up of the best travel books for kids.
It’s that time of the year to start buying gifts and personally, I’m a huge fan of books as gifts. It always feels like a worthwhile investment both in terms of their education and the entertainment factor.
We have enjoyed long road trips up and down Southern Africa, visiting South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and all around South Africa itself too. Since we moved from South Africa to the UK we have continued our love of road trips with our kids. We’ve explored North Wales, Scotland and England. (Ireland, we’re coming for you!) In August we spent two weeks touring Europe too. I think we visited 9 countries in 12 days. It was epic.
You could say we are experienced at road trips with kids. Check out my top tips on what to pack for a road trip with kids!

One thing I know for sure is that kids get bored! My husband and I often joke that we should have just bought a (much cheaper) panel van instead of a mini-van to travel around in because our kids spend much of the journey with their noses stuck in books or on their tablets! Such is life, and we can’t change that, however, what we can do is try to ensure that what they are watching and reading is not only entertaining but educational as well.
